Recently, the China Hotel Association released monitoring data on the China Catering Consumption Index (CCI). Data shows that the China Catering Consumption Index (CCI) stood at 89.6 in June, a year-on-year increase of 5.8%. China’s overall catering consumption maintained steady performance in the first half of 2026.
In terms of monthly trends, catering consumption is evidently driven by holidays. The index hit its yearly peaks in February and May at 103.2 and 99.0 respectively. The average order value index remained generally stable during the first six months and stayed above the benchmark for five consecutive months. Although the index saw a seasonal decline in June, it still rose by 6.4% year-on-year, demonstrating solid consumption resilience.
On the passenger flow front, the passenger flow index kept rising from January to May. Boosted by consumption during the May Day holiday, the passenger flow index climbed to the first-half peak of 108.5 in May, representing an 8.5% year-on-year growth. By business format, bakery and beverage segments led consumption popularity in the first half of the year. Chinese formal dining and international cuisines delivered steady performance; in particular, the popularity index of Chinese formal dining remained above 77, a relatively high range.
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, relevant officials from the China Hotel Association analyzed that as temperatures gradually drop, seasonal divergence in catering consumption will become more prominent. The popularity of spring and summer-focused categories such as barbecue may gradually cool down, while hot meals including hot pot will enter their traditional peak season with expected rising consumption demand. Bakery, beverage and Chinese formal dining sectors are projected to maintain stable growth.
The official also noted that consumption concepts continue to upgrade based on first-half monitoring results. Consumers are increasingly willing to pay a premium for high-quality products and distinctive experiences. Catering brands that create differentiated scenarios and deliver consistent quality services are gaining stronger market competitiveness and have become one of the key engines driving growth in the catering industry.
